The Holidays are Here, Again!

Hello All!
I don't think anyone actually reads this, which is a bit freeing for me. So I feel free to once again reiterate my dislike for the holiday season. I work for a national retail company as an associate. As of 2 November 2009, Christmas music has begun playing over the PA system, interspersed throughout the normal, everyday music. Unfortunately, it is not GOOD Christmas music. They are versions of songs that are so slow and depressing that I am baffled how they ever got produced, much less played on a radio station. I didn't know you could turn "Happy Holidays" into a dirge! But someone did! Also, who out there shops until 11PM on weekdays and Midnight on weekends?! STAY HOME PEOPLE!!! I am tired! You should be tired! What is going on in your life that you need to be shopping for Christmas ornaments or clothing at 11PM?!?! The other issue I have is for those of you who are married and think that those of us who are unwed do not have lives and, therefore, can and enjoy to work whatever hours we get assigned. I might become wed and have a life if I ever got a weekend evening off! You never know.... Or I could just be in bed, sleeping at 9PM and be able to get up at 5AM. That would be the dream sleep schedule. Alas, it is not to be, for the time being.

I have a dream, that one day, I will graduate from college! Someone will hire me to work as an Interior Architect in an international architecture firm. I will have benefits and paid vacations. I will work from 7AM to 3PM. And no one will ask me to re-arrange the toys on 24 shelves so that 18 of the shelves can be removed and put in the stock room for storage. I have a dream! And I am 4.5 semesters closer to achieving it!

(I recognize that this is a ventilation of frustration and acknowledge my hurt/anger at commercialization of a sacred event. Please don't be offended by my need to rant at the establishment. If I didn't work retail, I would be a Christmas and Thanksgiving decorating/celebrating fool. But, alas, I have not achieved that level in the teachings of Buddha yet. I also am aware that Buddhists don't celebrate Christmas, which, at this moment, makes me a bit envious of their religious practices. ;-D)

  1. Ha! I read your blog! Now you'll have to be more careful about what you post! Just kidding. I think if I was in retail I would probably dislike the holiday season too. Since I am not, I rather enjoy it. If for no other reason than it is the only time of year I get to fly home to see my family (or Cameron's family depending on who's turn it is). I mostly ignore the over commercialization of it and celebrate it my own way.
