Some Mad Genius

I'm not gonna lie--I thoroughly dig Jackson Pollock's paintings. I also like Kandinsky, Marc Chagall, Picasso, Matisse, etc. Not because their work is necessarily pretty but because it's fun and there is a rhythm to it that reminds me of music.

In an article on Wired.com, we get to read about how an art historian, a physicist, and a mathematician dissected one of Pollock's paintings. It makes me want to go play with paint and get back to the days when I made my own oil pigments and canvasses and had good brushes. Or just play with the India ink and brushes I have.

The only thing that I find cooler than this article is a permanent exhibit at the Museum of Fine Art, Houston. The artist created it with gunpowder and then lit a fuse! It is a piece called Odyssey by Cai Guo-Qiang and it's worth seeing. There is nothing else like it in the world. Completely breath-taking! You have to check out the Arts of China permanent collection at the MFAH. It's a once-in-a-lifetime kinda thing.

Here's a teaser to show you the end of the creation process:
