After a long, arduous process my car was towed not once but twice on it's journey to the car hospital. Currently, we are awaiting definitive diagnosis prior to surgery and recovery.
From the pictures the repairman/insurance adjuster took it has been deduced that something hit my right front tire with enough force to bend the rim, bubble the tire, and cause some cosmetic damage to the wheel well. It also hit with enough force that it pushed my car into the light pole causing it to bounce off said pole. Something called the control arm has been seriously damaged and, thus far, the minimal cost for repair is ~$7,000 US. Thank goodness my insurance deductible is less than 10% of that.
The really good thing is that I was driving under 10 mph, decelerating as I shifted into second gear. AND that I hit the light pole. The repairman informed me that had I been driving any faster--and had the pole not been there--there is a good chance that whatever hit my car could have flipped my car, rolling several times. I walked away without a scratch or bruise and suffered only severe personal annoyance and over-the-top levels of stress. Had it happened 5 minutes later when I was driving on I-610E at 60 mph, I would not have walked away with my life.
I have put on my bus pants, purchased a Q Card, and grabbed a book. My 20 minute commute has turned into a 95 minute public transportation excursion--at least for the next 2 weeks. It's quite nice to be driven around town on the bus and riding the train through downtown Houston. I'm also incredibly blessed that the school thing got screwed up because I couldn't handle the commute to class, the commute to work, work, studying, and sleep. Some huge disappointments in life truly are blessings in disguise.
