As I explained in the very first post I wrote, I'm not really aware of certain things. So when I learn something new that previously I had a misconception about, it is usually hilarious to other people. Such an event occurred the other day at work.
I was in the hospital cafeteria picking up my dinner--a delicious, gluten-loaded, bad-for-me-but-oh-so-tasty hamburger called The New Yorker. They put Bleu Cheese on it!! Oh. My. Soul! It is so fabulously wonderful! But, they serve it all the way minus any sauce; one must do that after one pays.
I had just walked away from the cash register with my highly anticipated gastronomical goodness and approached the condiment/napkin/utensil area to get mayo and ketchup. There were two women standing in front of me and there was large writing on the pockets of one of the women's, ahem, backside. I'm a sucker for reading things; can't help it. It said "Apple Bottom."
Immediately that song I don't know the name of that has the line "Apple bottomed jeans, boots with the fur, everybody in the club was looking at her" went through my brain. And then it dawned on me, Apple Bottom Jeans is a brand of jeans!
And me being me, I said that out loud to the woman whose butt I had been reading.
She turned around and gave me a weird look which prompted me to explain. I honestly thought that the dude singing the song was talking about the shape of the woman's bottom not the brand of jeans she was wearing. This prompted huge laughter from the women which made me laugh at myself. In fact, everyone in the vicinity who heard me was laughing at/with me.
People at work think I'm hilarious. Or at least one man from Nigeria does because every time he sees me he tells me I'm a funny lady. That's right, dude, my naivete and ignorance are things of which legends are born. And even though Apple Bottom Jeans are a real brand, I shall stick to my Calvin Klein Stretch Flares, thank you very much.
Yes, I think it's funny that you didn't know what Apple Bottom Jeans were, and that *that's* how you found out! Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteJust in case you find yourself in a similar situation thinking about Beyonce's "Single Ladies", Dereon Jeans are a real brand of jeans (actually, Dereon is a whole clothing line) designed by Mrs. Jay-Z and named after her grandmother.
