Personal Christmas Tradition #2

Since 2010, I have assisted in decorating my second mother's kitchen. Her husband thinks this particular decoration is a waste of time and has no patience to put it up. Enter me: the closet artist and urban planner.

This is the main reason I have started to love the Holiday Season again and am actually wanting to decorate my own abode--although that has not happened as of yet. (I should really put up the advent calendar quilt my mother gave me for Christmas last year. It's in a box.....)

Christmas Village Wonderland!!!!!!

Sometime around Thanksgiving I put up Mom #2's Christmas Village. It is so much fun for me! I get to climb on a ladder, stand on countertops, play with electrical wiring, adjust houses and create a fairyland. All while being as close to the vaulted ceiling above the kitchen cabinets as possible. Then I landscape. It is on display in the kitchen until Spring.

This year we actually took a picture of my finished product. We forgot the last 2 times I did it and this year I remembered so that I can have a reference of what I did the year before.

I have developed a love of miniature lighted holiday villages. I would have my own display were it not for being pathetically poor and not really having anywhere to put it. Before I get my own village, I should probably get a Nativity set. Oh, but designing an imaginary, snow-covered winter town just fulfills something buried deep, deep inside. Ahhhhh............ I also decorate above the cabinets on the opposite side of the kitchen, but it is nothing this elaborate nor time consuming. (no picture of that, unfortunately.)
