The last interview I went on at the hospital I've been hired to work at, I didn't even put on makeup. I went in khakis and a polo shirt and honestly answered that the reason I wanted to work at that specific hospital was because out of all the applications I had turned in, they called me and asked to interview me. It was the 5th interview in a week that I had been on at that particular hospital. Every time I got rejected the HR recruiter would say she just hadn't found me the right fit and scheduled me for another interview with a different department or unit. She refused to give up until someone at the hospital hired me; that's how much she believed that I belonged there.
"When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, 'til it seems as though you cannot hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time the tide will turn." ~ Harriet Beecher Stowe
This isn't one of the books I told you I would be reviewing this month but I feel that it applies. "Hope In Our Hearts" by Russell M. Nelson is a collection of 18 discourses on various subjects surrounding the idea that we can accomplish anything if we continuously look forward with hope for the future.
One of my favorite quotes comes in the introduction where he states, "If one keeps focused on things of eternal significance, the daily ups and downs of life will be properly prioritized." (Nelson, xiv.) There is much more to be learned from the different talks in the book and I highly recommend reading it if you are in need of a little boost.
Through these past few months, I knew that something was planned specifically for me but the circumstances and the timing had to be just right. The week I interviewed for my job, I either had to be hired or I had to walk away from everything and start over at a relatives home in another state or live in my car. It was the most difficult week of my life and I finally had to acknowledge that there were things of an eternal significance happening in my life that I had no control over.
Fortunately, that HR recruiter was correct and she refused to give up until she found me the perfect job on the unit that was right for me. The same day I got the phone call telling me they wanted to hire me for the Heart Transplant ICU, I got another phone call hiring me with an agency that facilitates corporate babysitting and have been able to pay my bills. I have been truly blessed because of the things I have gone through and from refusing to give in to despair and hope just another 24 hours that things will be better in the morning.
Here are a few quotes from the book that I have highlighted.
"To find real happiness, we must seek for it in a focus outside ourselves. No one has learned the meaning of living until he has surrendered his ego to the service of his fellow man." ~Thomas S. Monson (Nelson, 38.)
"Parents soon learn that each child has an inborn yearning to be free. Each individual wants to make his or her own way. No one wants to be restrained, even by a well-intentioned parent. But all of us can cling to the Lord." (Nelson, 13.)
"Now is the time to align our goals with God's goals." (Nelson, 163.)
"…maintain your motivation and perseverance to do work of worth. It will be a measure of your individual righteousness. No matter what your career may be, the long hours of sacrifice and effort required to achieve excellence are really worth it." (Nelson, 156.)
"Now is the time to shape your behavior to your hopes. It is not always easy. I can empathize with you." (Nelson, 152.)
