Minimalism Update

After weeks of researching, stressing, and experiencing mild anxiety, I have reached a cell phone conclusion. I like smartphones but don't like paying for them. I have been with one cell phone company since 2005 and since I'm familiar with that network and am okay with their coverage, I'm sticking with the prepaid company that uses that network. I found a phone and a plan I like in my budget. And get this, it's 1/2, HALF!, of what I paid on the same network but with the brand company. Now I just need to pay May's rent+electric, get certain insurance reinstated, and then I can purchase the phone I want outright. The decision came down to the way text messages were threaded and getting them unlimited; the GPS capabilities are a perk. And now that T-Mobile has made history by getting rid of the whole contract/specific phone thing, who knows what the future holds?

The other things I am doing are slower coming. I need to go through all my clothes which is so completely daunting to me right now it's ridiculous. I was in the habit of going through my clothes every 6 months and giving to Goodwill what I hadn't worn in that 6 months. I have some T-shirts from high school/jr. high that I need to retire. I need to cut out the logos and make a T-shirt quilt out of them.

I'm also planning on running a 5k 29 June so will be starting the Couch to 5k program tomorrow so that I can do that. Today I took some before pictures--which I will not be posting until there are some after pictures--and noted my weight, dress size, and measurements. I need to be healthier. I had my new-hire physical last week and my weight was an unhappy realization. I'm one of the only people I know who can eat once a day and gain 25 pounds. My metabolism doesn't slow down, it goes into hibernation when I don't eat regularly or healthily.

  1. Note to Emily: Eat more than once a day.

Once you complete your 5k I will congratulate you on a job well done - but not until it is finished. ;)

I am on a purging binge too. It's been like that for a looooooong time, probably because I haven't gotten rid of much so far. It's tough to know what to toss and what to keep when you still don't know what you will need for the next time you move. :\

  2. EXACTLY! I have winter clothes that I love that I don't need where I currently live but I can't throw them out because what if? And I'm pretty sure I will live in the same city until I die or at least the next 5-7 years but I don't know. Things just stare at me and I think way too much now as opposed to 10 years ago. 10 years ago everything I owned fit in 2 suitcases and 3 giant rubbermaid containers. Now if requires a 10-14' UHaul. Geesh!
