I happened upon this blogpost trolling on Pinterest. I like this lady's style. Some might find what she did harsh, but if you read the reaction her family had she made the right decision for her family. I grew up in a house that had very few toys. We had Legos, Tinker Toys, blocks, cardboard boxes galore, crayons, coloring books, blank paper, and wooden boards we made forts out of in the backyard. We had some Tonka trucks that stayed in the backyard and all the books we wanted to read.
My parents were too poor for much else. The first present I was ever given my grandpa remarked that he could have saved the money he spent and given me the box it came in instead. I thought the box was more interesting to play with than whatever the toy was. A neighbor got a new refrigerator once and gave us the box. That was the only thing we played in until it disintegrated. I have friends whose children have entire rooms full of toys and all I see is the expense. Personality wise I'm much more like the mom from the blogpost. I think I may start following her website.
"Why I Took All My Kids Toys Away"
Hey, I like that idea. I grow up with new toys myself and was able to find things to do to keep myself entertained for hours. That's when creativity and imaginations come into play.
