What Happened to August??

I have been extremely busy since I was released to return to work. I love it! Unfortunately this blog among other things got a bit neglected. I talked to my best friend J on the phone earlier and realized I hadn't talked to her in about 3 weeks. That's the longest we've gone without talking on the phone or something in the entire 10 years we've known each other.

School full-time has re-entered my life! Yes! I got my work schedule to accommodate my class schedule and can maintain a full-time work schedule while going to school. I even chose to take 2 classes for the fun of it: Intro to Archaeology online and College Choir. We are learning Vivaldi's Gloria and might be performing it next Spring at Carnegie Hall. It has been a long time since I've sung anything classical like this or in Latin. Loving it all and remembering how to listen and have the confidence to sing Alto as there are no Mezzo parts in this piece or any piece that I'm aware of. I would like to eventually audition for a chair in the Houston Symphony Chorus so this is a step in the right direction.

In related news, all my General Ed's will be complete as of this December with the exception of the science req's. But those are part of my degree plan so will be starting the beginning of Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, etc in January. Big plus: the hospital will reimburse my tuition beginning Spring 2014 semester. I am thrilled!

I am taking 2 Phys Ed classes and have set the goal to wake up every morning at 4 and work out for at least 30 minutes and slowly add on as I become more accustomed to the schedule. My plans to do that this week were derailed when I tripped up the concrete steps that lead to my building on the hospital campus. Ripped scrubs led to serious road rash on my left knee with a glorious bruise underneath. After cleaning up, I unexpectedly worked the entire ICU as the only tech. 17-18 patients keep one running.

I would show you a picture but it's quite ugly and you can google it if you really want to know what road rash looks like. I can also attest that ChloraPrep can make one scream and stop breathing all at the same time. I need to debride my knee sometime after church tomorrow but am not looking forward to ChloraPrepping a raw wound again. One of the RN's took pity on me the first time and swabbed it out when I screamed. I think setting my leg on fire would have felt more comfortable than cleaning it with 2% Chlorhexidine Gluconate.

So far I am loving September and feeling 200 times better than I did a month ago. Life is definitely on the uptick and I have things to look forward to in life again.

Had enough

Time to love.."

  1. I'm so happy for you! I know how much you love singing, so that's really awesome. And the tuition reimbursement is AMAZING. Yay for you!
