A New Heart

I don't get to talk about what I do at work that much. Patient's privacy is sacred and I respect that. Occassionally, we have patients who come to our unit only to live there for months at a time in a waiting pattern. These families become our friends and we do everything we can to make it feel like home. This is one such patient. He always makes me laugh and I am privileged to have worked with him and his wife this year.

"Beaumont Man Gets Total Artificial Heart"

There are lots of ways we can get new hearts. Some are just as drastic but less medically invasive. Physically it is so much easier to receive a new heart than it is to acquire a new spiritual or emotional heart. My hope for 2014 is that I can work on getting a new spiritual heart; to be a little kinder, more forgiving, slow to anger, and quick to smile.

  1. Awesome!

Your goal for this year is a completely worthy one, and I wish you much success in it! I love your take on the phrase "getting a new heart" and I'm pretty sure a lot of us could use some adjustments.
