Conversational Topics

Why is it that when other people find out you like someone they feel that it is their duty as a human being to tell you what they think you should do about it? It makes one feel like a non-willing competitor in a sporting event and everyone in the world who recognizes your face wants to be your coach. Why is so much entertainment derived from watching other people live their lives? Go read a book, people! Open your minds! Broaden your horizons! Develop topics of conversation that do not include the personal, private details of other people's lives.

Are there any topics that interest you? How about the new Ken Burns Documentary on the National Parks airing on PBS. It is fascinating! So much of our country's natural beauty could have been lost forever if any one person or decision had gone the other way. Can you imagine a world where Yellowstone wasn't protected? Or if Yosemite had been dug up during the California Gold Rush? What about the XXI Winter Olympics going on at this very moment in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada? Did you know that a Chinese Pairs Figure Skating team ended the Reign of the Russians by winning Gold and Silver medals on 15 February 2010? The Russians have won gold every winter Olympics since 1960--until this week. How cool is that?! The Russians didn't even make it on the medal podium because the German team was better than them! Unbelievable, but I saw it happen!

So, you see, there are so many more interesting things to talk about than my social ineptness. And, to be perfectly honest, the more you tell me I should be doing something, or just plain telling me what to do, the more I want to run in the other direction and rebel. I am a busy person who doesn't desire to go anywhere after I get home from school or work. If I could figure out how to convince members of the opposite sex that going to the grocery store can be considered a date, life would be so much simpler. Dating is over-rated. I would rather be friends with someone and actually talk to them then spend money and/or feel uncomfortable because they have spent money on me. My idea of a relationship has never meshed with any popular opinions. So please, keep your advice to yourself unless it has been specifically asked for. Two people can be friends because they like each other's company and have similar interests without you standing on the sidelines eating popcorn, commentating. Friendship is a private thing. Please, respect that, especially if you don't know what my favorite color is. Some things really are NONE of your business.
