I was challenged/dared to come up with 10 things no one knows about me. So here goes...

1. If you dare me to do something in front of people, I HAVE TO DO IT!! Just to prove to you that I will do it. Most people think I am so shy and private that I would never do something outrageous. I love proving them wrong! I had a roommate who didn't believe this about me and dared me to call BYU Information to ask them a question about the name of a song. So I called them up and asked, "What is the name of the song that goes like this?" I proceeded to sing it over the phone and, wonderful people that they are, they asked around the office and told me the name.

2. I love hiking! It is one of my favorite things to do. BUT...I have never been on an overnight backpacking trip. When I was a teenager my brothers got to go on their BSA High Adventure trips, which were usually backpacking in New Mexico or Colorado. I tried to go every year and was told that I couldn't because it wasn't right for one girl to go backpacking with a bunch of guys. Stupid rule! One day I will hike Jenny Lake, climb Mt Whitney, spend weeks on the Appalachian Trail, go up Mt Kilimanjaro, and who knows what else. There is this book I got to play with once for about 5 minutes....I could plan a trip that would take 3 years to accomplish if I could get my hands on that book again for about 4 hours. (Hint, hint to the person who owns that book and might secretly be reading this blog.)

3. I hate going to the doctor and having medical stuff done to me. I would rather go to a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and get acupuncture treatments than have someone draw blood and prescribe nasty pills.

4. I find out new things about myself everyday. For Family Home Evening (FHE) this week, we were challenged to write Personal Mission Statements. As I filled out my questionnaire, I realized that my answers had a distinct pattern about a certain something that I didn't know I wanted. And nothing about my pattern is achievable without a husband. I have no idea when my brain decided I would like to get married, have children, and reign as a Domestic Goddess. If you know me, that statement probably just caused you to gasp in shock or fall over because the Earth just tilted on its axis.

5. Contrary to certain opinions: I actually do like and want to have children. I'm pretty sure I will like my children a lot more than other people's children, though. I appreciate the fact that other people take their children home after a certain amount of time.

6. I have a Queen sized bed that I wish I hadn't purchased. It's actually up For Sale on Craig's List. I discovered after spending the past 2 months tossing, turning and generally not feeling like I rested at all, I get an amazing nights sleep elsewhere. And it has everything to do with me and my body, not the quality of the bed. Would you like to know where I sleep? On the floor of my bedroom. I wake up with zero back pain and before my alarm clock goes off. I love it!

7. I could be quite happy living without certain modern conveniences. I am the most relaxed, the most myself when I am outdoors away from civilization. I think a tent is adequate shelter from the elements and love to sleep and wake with the rhythm of the sun. I also think watching the sun rise or set is some of the best entertainment out there. There's a new episode every day and, as far as I can tell, no re-runs.

8. While #7 is my ideal lifestyle, I couldn't handle living like that by myself. I dislike being alone. I'm from a big family and, while I do like my personal space, I really enjoy being around lots of people, cooking, talking, eating, laughing, playing, etc. If I had any real say in the matter, there would be at least 2 other people living in the house I rent. I actually have to leave my house and go do homework where there are lots of people. If I stay at home to study, I go a bit batty. Something about knowing you aren't the only one breathing on the planet calms me.

9. I would rather live with a bunch of guys than girls. I grew up with four brothers before our sister showed up to add more estrogen to the mix. Most of my life, my best friends have been guys. What is super strange is that most of my guy friends have gotten married and I don't really have any guy friends anymore. It's difficult for me to be around other girls because they seem to think I am strange/weird/odd/unnatural. I also have been told I think like a guy, so that could explain why I have a hard time identifying with other females and their innate girly-ness. I hate shopping unless I'm in a book, hardware, sporting goods, or electronics store. I also hate shaving my legs and only started wearing make-up on a regular basis in the past 18 months. My sister is so proud of me for wearing make-up.

10. It is easier for me to walk up to a total stranger, whom I will never see again, and have a long, in-depth conversation about something than it is for me to say, "Hello, how was your day?" to someone I see on a regular basis. For example, there is a certain person that I actually enjoy talking to but when I see this person I turn into a clam and hide in the kitchen. I so thought I had gotten over this personality flaw, but for some reason this person brings it out in me. I get nervous, forget that I know how to speak English and go into some weird fugue state. Oddly enough, I don't have this problem if this person and I are the only ones in the room, house, or car. How bizarre is that?

Well, EmJeter, does this satisfy your need to know things about me?

  1. HeeHee! #1 is my favorite! I wonder if they still mention it to each other? "Do you remember the time that girl called in...?"

  2. There is one thing that I did with Dustin that I wonder if people still talk about. I wonder if certain people sit around and say, "Remember that chick who broke into our apartment in the middle of the night and turned all of our milk into vanilla pudding? Whatever happened to her?" I still regret not climbing the outside wall to the roof of the Harold B. Lee Library on campus. I know exactly how I would do it, too.
