The Museum of Fine Art--Houston has released their Friday and Saturday Lecture schedule for Fall 2011. YAY!!! So all you art junkies out there, take note!
All lectures are held in the Brown Auditorium Theater on Fridays at 1:30 and Saturdays at 4. The first lecture is not to be missed if you are planning on attending the King Tut exhibit opening October 16, 2011. (I've seen it! Absolutely amazing!)
Sept 9 & 10, 2011
Gold, Death, and Race: Why We Still Care about the Burial of King Tut
Presented by Dr. Kara Cooney
The other one I would highly recommend simply based on my own personal interest and scholarship is on the art of Islam.
Oct 21 and 22, 2011
What is Islamic Art?
Presented by Dr. Francesca Leoni
I will definitely be attending the lecture on 21 October. I missed the Sufi exhibit by 2 days last year and kicked myself about it for weeks. Too bad I couldn't just buy a plane ticket and fly to London to see it when it left Houston. I watched them pack it up though since I was in the museum that day doing research for a client. One day.......
The first one in November also piques my curiosity as it deals with an area I'm familiar with religiously but not artistically.
November 4 & 5
Spirit in Art: A Buddhist Vision in Tibet
Presented by Dr. Robert Thurman
This Fall looks to be exciting and event-filled. Don't be afraid to leave your house and explore the world around you. If you're not in the Houston area, check out your local museums. You never know what fun and inspiring things are waiting for you to discover them. Be a tourist in your own city.
