Elevator Love

Sunday, I was moving a patient to a new room and the entire family came with us. There were about 10 of us crammed into the elevator. The patient commented that maybe some of them should have waited for the next elevator. There were general protests from the various family members about how they were afraid they would get lost, they wanted to be there, etc.

"Don't you feel greatly loved that all these people want to be with you?" I asked.

"Yes, I feel loved but this elevator is a bit small."

Then the most amazing thing happened. Every family member--without looking at each other--burst out singing The Beatles song "All You Need Is Love." I couldn't help but smile and feel completely uplifted. One of the sons-in-law smiled at me and remarked,

"I think we totally made her day."

They totally did.
