Happy Gratitude Day!

This is my second favorite holiday. We get to sit down, reflect for a moment on what we've been given. We get to watch the Macy's Parade, a little football, and feast.

It is also the holiday that starts the countdown to Christmas. I was thinking about that today as I was reading some things online.

I read this talk called "What If Love Were Our Only Motive?" and got to thinking about why we do some of the things we do. It also hit home a bit for me because I've been struggling to think of Christmas presents for various and sundry family members. It's difficult when you're on a shoestring budget and I always feel guilty when someone gives me a present and I have nothing to give them in return.

Why do you give presents? Is it to fulfill an obligation because they've given you something? Or is it because you genuinely want someone to know you love and care about them?

Anyway....

This is my Thanksgiving wish: That everything we do this Christmas season is done purely out of love.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

  1. Agree. Our family stopped doing presents and now every year a person picks a topic such as "your very first memory" and we all write about it and make it into a book. Our own little geneology I guess. I like it.
