Audra MacDonald introduces the evening for the PBS special that you can watch online. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wished I could sing along without coughing up a lung. (Wretched allergies.) The bench scene is one that musical theatre historians have said influenced the way musicals were staged. This marks the point in musical history where the operetta became what we now know as the modern musical theatre. If you've never heard the music or don't know the storyline, this is a tad on the dark side. Not what you typically think of when you think of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
"If I loved you......"
"When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high and don't be afraid of the dark. At the end of the storm is a golden sky and the sweet, silver song of a lark. Walk on through the wind. Walk on through the rain. Tho your dreams be tossed and torn. Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart and you'll never walk alone. You'll never walk alone!"
Hook the computer up to your TV like I do and watch a fab performance. Or check your local PBS station to see if it is airing some time soon. Or buy the DVD to add to your collection; I'm sure PBS would LOVE that last one.
