I started writing this almost two months ago and never got around to publishing it. One day I was bored with everything I was reading and stumbled across Mercedes Lackey's books on the Houston Area Overdrive Media site. I was looking for the ebook for Robin McKinley's "Briar Rose" and "The Sleeping Beauty" was listed as an 'you might also like.' I read the blurb and checked it out.
I have read every book in the series that the library had ebook copies of. They are based on the fairy tales we have seen in Disney movies--Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, etc--but they are told with the added twist of free will. If you know there is something or someone manipulating your story would you make different choices to change the outcome of the storyline? Would you choose to not have a happy ever after that something else chooses for you? How would knowing that there is a prescribed outcome for your life and exactly what it is affect the way you choose to step away from it all and risk everything? What if you're destined to be Cinderella but Prince Charming was born when you were 17?
They're quite good in my opinion. I have read "The Sleeping Beauty," "Beauty and the Werewolf," "The Fairy Godmother," and "One Good Knight." I believe the only ones I have yet to read are "A Tangled Web,""Fortune's Fool," and "The Snow Queen." If you are a fan of the deconstructed fairy tale these should definitely be on your to-read list.
