I hate doing dishes. As in, I would rather do anything else in life than wash dishes by hand. The dishwasher is the most amazing invention in modern history. It ranks right up there at Numero Uno, tied with the washing machine. I would do anything to get out of washing dishes and haven't lived anywhere without a working dishwasher since I became an adult and moved out of my parents' house.
I have a dishwasher that works perfectly fine. But the garbage disposal is broken. And there is no hot water in the kitchen sink. I have done everything I know how to do to get the hot water to come on in the kitchen sink. Nothing. And the side of the sink where the GD is is the same side where the dishwasher backs up when it is draining. I have tried everything I know and it still takes over 30 minutes for that side of the sink to drain, leaving nastiness and a greasy film on everything. I have no money to replace/repair these things.
For the time being, this is my kitchen sink.
As I was squatting next to the tub, scrubbing the dishes in a bathtub that won't stay plugged up, "At least I have hot water and a dishwasher with racks to dry the dishes." Some people wash their clothes and dishes in the river. Scrub boards are involved, sand, and who knows what. I've washed dishes in such a manner while camping--just never thought I'd do it in the modern comfort of Western civilization.
